What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a primary health care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a variety of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments and tendons of the body, particularly involving that of the spine and its effects on the nervous system.

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls the function of every tissue, cell, organ and system of the body. In most cases the treatment is aimed at removing nerve pressure and irritation, usually brought on by a number of factors associated with modern day living, including accidents, physical stress, mental stress, anxiety, poor diet and lack of exercise.

Chiropractic works because you are self-healing.

Chiropractors use gentle specific manipulation of spinal joints to restore their normal function. The result is an increase in mobility, decrease in pain or discomfort, and removal of irritation to the spinal nerves with a wide range of health benefits.

Chiropractors typically have 5 years of university training. By avoiding drugs or risky surgery, chiropractic care enjoys an excellent track record for safety. A thorough examination can identify the person for whom chiropractic care might be unsuitable. And by comparing the statistics, you can see adjustments are about 100 times safer than taking an over-the-counter pain reliever.

What Methods do we use?

Chiropractic adjustments usually involve a quick thrust that helps add motion to spinal joints that aren’t moving right. Some methods use the chiropractors hands, an instrument, a special table or the force of gravity. There are many ways to adjust the spine. Dr Layton uses the following techniques:

~ Thompson Drop Piece

~ Diversified Activator

~ S.O.T.

~ Applied Kinesiology

Each patient’s spine and care plan is unique. With 24 moving bones in the spine, each of which can move in seven different directions, we see a wide variety of spinal patterns.

Each patient’s care is custom-tailored for his or her age, condition and health goals.
